Retreat at Church Creek - Making Room

Make Room, Serve More

Help us make room for more pastors and ministry leaders to live well and finish strong.

To date, the Retreat at Church Creek has served almost 1,700 ministry leaders from across the nation through retreats and exceeded our goal of hosting 50+ retreats in a single-year in 2023.

With 44% of leaders who attend our retreats facing burnout and at risk of leaving ministry altogether, we are encouraged that more than 97% report their experience at the Retreat at Church Creek as either “life changing” (51%)  or “very helpful” (46%).

However, since our facility was originally built as a single family home, the Retreat at Church Creek has significant limitations in our ability to serve more leaders, more often. The county now require us to be rezoned as a commercial property and the work needs to be completed by August 31st. While we close for those essential repairs and upgrades, we are also taking the opportunity to make other improvements to our guest experience.

To achieve our mission of serving 10,000 pastors in five years, we’re embarking on a full remodel and facility upgrade with enhancements spanning additional bedrooms and bathrooms to increase sleeping capacity, implementing a full commercial kitchen, ADA updates, HVAC overhaul, and more to ensure the comfort for our guests.

Accessibility isn't just a legal requirement, it's an expression of love and care. This ADA compliant stair lift allows access to the gym and garage area.

A fireplace adds physical and relational warmth to any setting. The original fireplace is very dated and will be updated with shiplap and stone surround and a new barnwood mantle.

FUNDED | The best prevention is proaction. When those low country storms blow through, we need to be ready to serve our guests with electricity for lights, food storage, and needed HVAC systems.

Food is a vital part of rest and recreation. The coffee/drink/snack bar is a focal point at the retreat center. It will have drink coolers and coffee/espresso makers.

Parking is an issue around the house. Expanded parking will include 10 spots and a new staff parking area nearby that is hidden so as to not spoil the view.

This 6' x 8' island right off the kitchen will host appetizers and meals, as well as provide a key gathering place for playing games or just hanging out as a group.

FUNDED | After the renovation, which necessitates tearing up most of the yard and horse field for septic, we will need to resod and install some new shrubs, bushes and trees to enhance the grounds around the house.

In addition to our commercial back-of-house kitchen, a renovated ADA compliant guest kitchen will help us better serve our guests between meals and provide a useful and homey touch.

An updated ADA compliant bedroom and bathroom on the first floor will enable us to better serve any guests needing the extra accommodation.

Food is where the heart is! We cook all of our meals at the retreat and we think of our mealtimes as another experience for our guests. Because we are a commercial entity all of our equipment must be up to commercial code and compliance.

When most guests talk about their stay, a good nights sleep is always on the top of the list. We are converting one large room with serveral bunks into a space with 3 bedrooms and an additional bath along with a sitting area that overlooks the marsh.
